The magic first pass

We all stumble to the boat in the dark to be on the water as soon as it's safe. I love getting out there for that time. How many on here have caught fish in the first 15 minutes of dropping the lines? I'm 0/5 this year and on three of those days I/we got limits.
Probably was 3/15 last year.

Hey tubber, don't feel bad not getting one in the 1st fifteen mins.
i'm working on 7 trips without a fish !:(
I have hit them on the first pass though, gets you pumped up for
the day in a hurry !

Love when you just get only one rod in and then BAM fish on did that the other day was a 26lber then trolled for another 6 hours for zip. sometimes its the kiss of death!!!!!LOL LOL

When I fished up at blackfish sound the first boat into the kelp beds at flower island would always get a fish I bet 9 out of 10 the avg was thats why we wold get up extra early just to beat people to it.

I've just got the first rod in the holder and fish on then nothing for the rest of the day. Also nothing for 8hrs, 1 rod left to bring in...had it 10m feet from the surface and fish on. I prefer the latter as the customer goes home remembering the fish he just played and forgetting about the 8hrs waiting for it. The best way to put it...is what I always tell my clients. If we go early and fish all day, we won't miss any bites. If a bite hasn't happened yet I don't get worried, it will. The only time I get annoyed is when I get a late start, ask a few guys once I arrive only to be told a great bite an hour ago. Now I might be f*%ked.

had a buddy from Alberta out near China Creek a few years back...dropped the first rod, bent over to pick up the second rod (still so dark we could hardly see the first rod in the holder) and the first rod starts pounding. after about a 15 min fight the fish (probably 25 lbs) goes around the downrigger cable that we failed to clear properly and is gone.
next hit didn't happened until 1:30 and snapped off due to a nick in the line likely caused by the first incident [xx(].

Had a couple of mornings like that in Kyuquot....one of them I didn't even get the first rigger down past 50' on my way deeper and "fish on". Actually I think every morning this year on my trek over there this year we had at least one hookup within the first 15 minutes. The last morning I think we had 3 in the first 10 minutes.

Haven't done much fishing in the local chuck....but it never seems to work out quite that well for me.

yup first pass cape edenshaw (piggy bay)
fishing out of naden harbour

0 for 4 this year when ive headed out for first light.

Last year it seemed almost automatic though, a fish on each rod within 5 min of getting setup.

Still gotta head out early for that first light bite though. On the weekend im too excited to get out fishing to sleep anyways
