I know two guys like that.
I'm from Oshawa, I knew whole families like that. Confession time.When I was 12 my dad asked me what I wanted to do for my 13th birthday.
I told him I wanted to spend the day at Dom's Auto Wreckers walking around the acres of cars (with the dogs all tied up)
My dad looked after the family's kids and my present was arranged.
I took a bag lunch and spent my birthday at an auto wreckers
Now Dom's wasn't as tidy or the economic powerhouse it is today but back in the 60's it was pretty cool and they still had cars from the 40's & 50's

My first year in university, fall of 72 , i saw my first big computer like that. My comment after a few classes learning Cobalt and Fortran and key punching a 1000 keycards to turn on a light was ," this is going nowhere" boy , was i wrong.
