Telegraph cove questions

I am planning a couple days in Telegraph Cove for fishing and sightseeing. Wife wants to see the Orka rubbing beaches, etc. How far is it to the Bears fishing in the rivers or on the beaches in Knight Inlet or Bute from TC? Any must do's in the area? Must eat at place? I will be in my truck camper, probably Telegraph Cove Resort. Then up to Port Hardy for a period. Best fishing areas, where to stay there, and what to see and eat there? Is it that much better going to the west side for fishing. I can not bring back that much fish, and shipping is cost prohibitive, so can fill out my fish box in either place. Shrimp? Fish for or buy? Do I have to fish prawns at 200'? Crab rings or crab pots for dungeness? Do not need that many to fulfill the eating requirements.

It is really early for the bears, and it is an easy 1.5-2.0 hours to the head of Knights and that is if it is one of the rare calm days. Lot of afternoon outflows.

Have to stop in and eat at Pierre's Echo Bay Resort. Best Pig Roast on the Coast!!!

Lots of good places to fish from both places, just ask around and see where the fish are bitting. Way too many to list here, but some good bets are the back side of Malcolm Island, Baronets Passage, Lizared pt etc.

In Port Hardy, you can camp at Quatse Campground or get a hold of Wade at Bear Cove Cottages and see if he has camping.(not sure if he does). Prawns will be deep at this time of year and the usual box trap for crabs will work fine.

A reminder about crabbing at the popular Nimpkish River mouth,

Nimpkish Estuary Special Management Area: From June 15 to September 14, the daily limit for all crab species (other than King or Box crab) is reduced to two in Subarea 12-19: those waters at the mouth of the Nimpkish River that lie inside a line that begins at a boundary sign approx. 1.5 km easterly of Broad Pt, then continues to navigation aid N17, then to a boundary sign located approximately easterly of Willow Creek then following the shoreline of Vancouver Island to the beginning point. Only dip nets, ring nets or hand picking is permitted to harvest crab in this area at this time.

i was there last weekend great prawning in the cove but someone cleaned all 10 of our pots and we found traps drifting toward the stait and were moved to the other side of beaver cove.
keep watch on your traps! there is a small camp near the log booms that i think the thieves are living, i have heard other complaints about this sort of crap!

Bill Alder Bay is another option for camping its real close to Telegraph Cove. Has all the amenities. Boat Launch etc... Lots of Bears running around everywhere. LOL should of taken pics last yr. Beautiful view there also!!

Bugs weren't ever a problem the 3 times I've been to Alder Bay. Very close to the dock for campers as well.(100-200yards) I believe Telegraph is a longer hike to the boat for campers.

Last weekend there were quite a few little biters. Could of been noseeum's but I'm not sure. Looked like a very tiny fruit fly but packed a bite.
