Honest thoughts on the paddle boarder getting a major fine…? I thought that was ridiculous given the amount of legal harassment whales get by ww industry. Sure 200m… twin 300hp… but a paddle boarder? Could be a log from the whale’s perspective.

After watching the video in the article I'd say that those whales were completely un-fussed by the presence of the paddle boarder. Based on their behaviour it looks like the whales were in the process of making/finishing a kill. It also looks like the birds were picking up scraps. That's my opinion based on my experience but we all know what that's worth here, as shown by the post directly above.
I'd say this is an issue of optics. The ballsy government levying a big fine as an example, hoping to deter other humans from doing the same thing. Which I'm ok with because otherwise it's a free for all out there and we've proven time and time again that, as a society, we can't have nice things and are generally unwilling to be accountable for our actions. If the gov't did nothing then what message would that send?

I am on the Board of the PBPS.
Things have progressed well beyond your, and the general public's understanding.
And it is extremely likely that will remain the same moving forward.

That's a strange attitude from a board member. How are you hoping to get the general public to back your cause unless you've got some information to convince them? A web search for the PBPS leads to a FB page but I couldn't find anything of substance beyond a gofundme link and sources from 2019.
Edit: Trites is a co-author of one of the PBPS sources from 2019. Is that the usual spew you're referring to?

Basically we are not really looking for public support at this time, and any information release would be considered counter productive.
Just the way it is. Read the last line of my previous post.
I have countered Trites both personally and at the Standing Commission on Fisheries in Ottawa (FOPO).
He ran every single time.
I put no validity to his arguments as a consequence, and he well knows that.

I read your post and understood it the first time, unlike your previous example of reading comprehension way upthread. My follow up questions were based on your statement about the alleged progression of things and my curiosity about the extremely unlikely chance that the general public will ever catch up. Now I know that keeping the public in the dark is by design; I'll look forward to the big reveal from the Pinniped Illuminati when the time comes.
Funny how you have such a beef against Trites and yet the PBPS, which you claim to be a board member of, cites his work as a justification for their existence.

Most here well know that Ken Pearce & I were very good buddies, and that we collaborated with several others to create the PBPS.
Ken has passed on. Several of us picked up the torch.
This is rather well known so I will have to call out your obvious & intended slur in that regard.
Trites offered on and off support.
Flip flopped faster than Carney at times.
Push came to shove at FOPO he literally 180'd.
I and others have had nothing to do with him ever since.
