Looking for some feedback on square prawn traps. See some people selling new traps on marketplace or stores selling Bauers. Any difference in quality or how they produce??

Also whats the consensus, 18x18 or 24x24?

Sherwood in Victoria has some of the best prices for 18x18. About $75 each if my memory serves me. If you are buying a large set you might even get a discount. I have a small cockpit so went for the smaller traps.

The Bauer trap is made with American quality steel material and stainless fasteners, the others are mostly Chinese sourced. I guess it only matters if you're not gonna lose em. They also did a ton of local research on ramp angles and how it's laid out. Good buddy of mine.
I like stackers for space so I don't really fish squares.

I prefer the smaller size Bauer, easier to handle across the gunwale and less drag while pulling in strong current or wind.

Price difference isn't a lot when applied to the two pair you're allowed on a licence. With reasonable attention given to rigging and deployment, rigid traps should last a long time. Especially if you buy a locally made product that uses good quality materials.

Bauer has always been the one for us. Long lasting quality built local family operation. I am in support of any local Canada made and USA made products. Quality isn't about being cheap, it's about lasting. Over time Quality is always the best dollar value investment.

Simply, The best constructed, most productive traps in the Pacific North West
Large Trap is 24" x 24" x 8 1/2"
Small Trap is 18" x 18" x 8 1/2"
*Please note: the small (18"x18") trap has no built-in bait cage. After many fishing tests we specifically asked for them to be made without the bait cage as the cage is too close to the entrances and the prawns don't actually need to enter to feed.
So NO, it is not all the same and they use stainless fasteners.
I'll mention your input.

I took my comments off as we drifted far over what you originally asked about. 18 x 18 is what I run, and some other custom sizes. I find the 24 x 24 too big myself.

When did they get rid of the bait cage on the 18x18 traps? Mine have them. And photos online have them.
