When we left the weigh in station at 5:30 a 33.6 was leading. There were about 20 fish weighed in at that point but I am sure there were quite a few to come in, in the last hour and change.
final stats (if I recall correctly) 301 entrants, 56 weighed in - fish prizes to 20.2 lbs - winner was what, 38.5 around there. Cold as hell for August - 4 layers with wind breaker still froze my azz off - clocked 50km wind coming out of Beecher first thing.
Thanks again to all the volunteers that work so hard for the derby. Great to see the winner ES out with his boys and get the big one. We were behind him when they netted it. Right near where last years big one was caught
yep, further east turned out to be the dead sea - sat looked like good start (based our decision to hang around there Sunday because of it) - lost about an 18 at the boat while the other rod had tail chomped (no trailer with the smaller bait), I got into what seemed to be a smaller one, but started to fight a little in and flipped off, another decent slammer that was gone by the time I got to the rod...all in about first hour...then it died. Got about a 7lb sock in from a seal chase which we probably just handed back to the seal. Sunday worse...Jack lost around a 12 and that was it. We did get as far west as PP by later in the days, but no go. Saw few of the regular sheringham to Otter crowd around trap, so it must have still been hit and miss for many.
I did get a random draw, so got a few things to take home. Good steak too!
didn't feel like a derby winner - let my guard down []
Yep...wifey gave me a hard time - seems DFO is not an excuse for not bringing back fish for the table...lol
