Fished 5-dark. halibut for the first 2 hours, had one hit. Then trolled the bedford-church till dark and not even a hit. Lots of bait showing on the sounder and on the surface!

Hope it is better tomorrow night!

OH man, Its been so HOT! Limits in 15 mins. You have to hide in your cuddy to put your anchovey in the teaser or they wont bite!

What a joke! Heading out right now will post later. Should find me in the trap for the evening!

-Steve

Nothing for us--started at Muir at 6:30 am then Otter when the wind came up, then back to Muir and Sheringham when it calmed in the pm. Quit at 3:15.

There used to be a old saying my grandfather used to say, Winds from the west fish bite the best, winds from the east fish bite the least. For the most part I have found it to be true. Then again I am always looking for a good excuse for coming home with a empty cooler.

Those Coho's should be here shortly! Atleast its somthing to fill the gaps between the Springs. Im thinking im into it for about 35 hours fishing and one 14 pounder! I cant seem to mark any fish anywhere either. Maybe 5-6 fish each trip. I would say you have to work hard for your fish. But I havent even seen many caught. Maybe 3-4 fish in that time.

That would be strange if the winds effected your fishing results. I will keep it in mind when I start catching again.

Started my Tuesday off from the basin at around 4:00am on radar. Stopped in at otter to see if I could mark any fish. Nope, so continued on through to Sheringham. No fish at first then suddenly a wave pushed in. Bait everywhere on the surface and stratified slabs everywhere. I though for sure it would be any moment until my rods started to pop. ....but nothing. Then as suddenly as they appeared they were gone. I saw one 20ish fish taken in the four hours I was there. I picked up and moved down to muir. I still didn't see anything significant. So, continued down to possesion. There they were. I managed one high teens that I released. I figured that fishing alone in the wind is tricky enough but when other @#$%holes allow themselves to be pushed into the reef I am not being pushed in too because of their stupity. I pulled my lines in three times to move quickly only to watch other guys drift in on the rocks and get caught up. Morons! ( I should note that I tend to work the rocks really closely when I am searching for fish. Starting from really tight in to really out deep. Pretty standard.) These guys get on the outside of me with these big S#$%t eating grins on their faces while they are being pushed in by either tide or wind. I swear most of them are acting like they don't know or are not aware of the reefs out there. I'm not going to start yelling out there so I eventually packed up.

Kind of a grind [|)]

RIGHT rod to shore it amazies me nobody does this and pi$$es me off especially on an incoming flood takes about 30 min to go from otter to 3rd rock coming down maybe 5 mins yet there is morons out there and yes I know your lurking on here!!!!! go up tight inside then go out deep and do a circuit so its all moving together its really not hard cmon make it easy for everyone out there. you cant have the inside both ways.

Btw got 1 20 lber for my efforts today and lost 2 at the boat. so could have been a GREAT day LOL

Out for 2 trips yesterday, 3 springs in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Today 2 in the morning and 4 out of 5 this afternoon, including a triple header (20, 19 and 16) landed all 3 :) I guess I'm dialed in right now.

You are out there everyday and have been guiding in sooke since the early 80's. I would say your dialed....Nice work on consistently hooking up. That is the true test of a good fisherman!!
Care to give a bit more info than just #'s. If not I totally understand but was anyone else hooking up around you at least? Any info from a vetern guide is helpful and appreciated; thanks in advance!! I guess we'll have to keep reading IFF to get the reel goods.

"Wind from the East fishings the least"
"Wind from the West fishings the best"

I remember my Father spouting that out many years ago.
