SOOKE REPORTS spring/summer 2010

We picked up a nice 17lber off the trap shack this morning (about 11:00). It was really foggy so I'm not completely sure where we were! Only saw one other boat with a fish.

Out today at Otter, radar run all the way out and back. Just 5-6 boats there and one guy in a kayak. Picked up a #30 and lost a second one to a broken hook on a Coyote spoon. Back out tomorrow and Sunday.

Good job casper was out thursday didt get a thing but GREAT killer whale show 5 or 6 orca breeching at the same time got to admit was kinda cool even though I knew that was it for fishing,I got halibut trolling for salmon off of otter that was it.

Got out today in te fog AGAIN holy cow last year 3 times had to put the radar on already this year 8 times WTH, picked up a teener was a play day for a change and was fun had, Gourmet elk burgers on the new wallas stove that thing rocks, fun day.
Out again tommorow anyone in the derby wish you luck and give people fish on some room especially in the fog and dont be afraid to lift your gear all it takes is about a min to pass and then be back down.

Out again today at Otter,alot different than yesderday.Windy and choppy there and fog on the way out,about 25-30 boats there.Saw 2 fish caught,zero for us.Off tomorrow,back on Monday.

Short snap at the trap this morning.
Got a 12lb and lost another that was decent. Saw a fish in the 30's and a few others caught. Bite lasted about 45 minutes then went dead. Also got a pink and lost a small one behind the boat that may have been the same. Weird.

Slow day at Otter for us, we also saw only a few fish caught all day -- maybe 4 at most.

Caught a 15 pounder off the Trailer Park on the long troll back. And a pin popper at Possession that got away. I saw a couple other fish being played at Possession in the evening, so maybe a bit of a bite -- rough conditions though.

roy any more whales my wife keeps bugging me about seing the whales[[:0] i guess it would be cool as she says beats the boredom of rod watching was that off otter[?] u know we could use a floading chip wagon or fish tacos anyone[]maybe the fleet can ahali

Yesterday am pod of whales came through saw them just outside of the bluffs 300ft or better.
Nice show one came out of the water completely. Never seen on do that around here [8D]

Looked slow today by the lack of activity at noon at the cleaning tray, still dry. Managed 3 nice fish, 28, 221/2 & 22. No real bite just one in the first hour then 1 at 10 and 1 at 11am. Released 2 socks, hopefully we get some time on them this year, even a week would be great.

Too many boats in front on a long weekend and derby day. I went west until there was room to fish.

Slow first day of derby for us, not a bite. Second day started by 6 done by 9:30, put a 22 in the bucket and placed 2nd in the derby with 34.95lb Awsome Trap paid off.

Fished 6-10 this morning. Missed a good pin popper early then lost one in the mid 20's to a seal. Couple more pinks.
Saw a few fish caught but nothing big.

Fished Otter 5-11,a bunch of shakers(pinks and a sockeye)Lots of small stuff being caught. Saw Spring Central playing a nice one,but he told me he lost it. Back on Friday.

Decided to do that Hali thing as the salmon was just not paying off for me. Got one 27 pound chicken and lost 2 others. Both mainlines broke. One was a bout 60 and the other was another chicken.

I think the mainline was breaking from friction from a tangle we had earlier in the day.

Hope to get out for Hali again tomorrow.

I think it was 38.5 not sure who as I was not involved int he derby.
