Totally agree highlights. You can kid yourself as much as you want but at the end of the day we all fish to catch. Not all do catch to eat but that's everyone's own decision. Without the catch success you will see people dropping out or look somewhere else and that's when the economic down-spiral sets in. Also, you will lose every interest in salmon fishing by our future generation which prevents any near-future recovery of this particular sportfishing type in this area.

I fish cause I suck at golf!

Yep fishing is bad stay home......

Out today got 2 lost 1 a 27 and a 27.5 on 2 different sets of gear one was at 65 ft the other deeper. beutiful day on the water.

Nobody is saying there aren't fish out there. ( I've got a fish every trip out this year)) but you have to admit Roy, you have to work damn hard and put in some long hours between them most times. Bottom line it's quiet at this point.

Heard Otter went off for a spell today.

The guys who are out every day are bound to hit the fish once in a while despite the low #'s.

Guides livelihood depends on customers who want to fish. A guide is not going to come on here and tell you the fishing is terrible. They might as well quit if they were to post that kind of information.

When they get fish, they post. When they don't they are pretty much silent.

"We must strive to touch the land gently and care for it as true stewards, that those who follow us and assess our record may see that our mark on the land was one of respect and love, not cruelty and disdain."

Well call me different but I have told my clients fishing is slow but everyday is different I let them know fully whats going on as I like to be open and upfront with people they are paying for a adventure and the chance at "catching" a fish you have to remember alot of these people havent ever been fiishing they just want to be on our beutiful ocean and see seals and whales, eagles the whole thing!!!!! cant tell you how many times they burn up 40 pics of the seals and the scenery.

Well ive been skunked with clients only 2 times this year, ive been able to scrape up 1 or 2 fish since we were really able to fish june 18th, the season is really only less than 4 weeks old cmon guys give it a chance IT WILL GET BETTER ill take the 2 bits now, LOL LOL. And like chicken little said the sky is falling you and I know its not !!!!!!!!And you might as well say only about 2 and a bit weeks of fishig as the killer whales have hammered this area quite a few times and has effected it.

If you look back I have written "SLOW" on a few occasions al im saying is YES you have to work for them and maybe try a few new things "think outside the box".
YES I HAVE HAD to work hard to get them who ever said fishing is "EASY" LOL its called fishing not catch.

TRUST ME ill admit it has been a horrable start to the year thanks to DFO and it has all left a very bad taste in our mouths.

Go out enjoy the fact we can fish not with the mentality I have to fill the boat enjoy the time with your friends and family life is too short and before you know it people in your life pass and then you will be saying damn if we only spent more time out fishing with each other. do it now before its all gone.....GET out and fish quite being sooo damn negative

Was out today, fishing Secretary and Possession. It looks like Fogust has come early. Foggy for the whole time we were there and only a few boats around. Got zip and did not see anyone else do any better. 1 in the 20’s on the chalk board when we came in.

Totally foggust out there. Ran all the way to the light at Wiffin Spit at lunch. Didn't see the point till I was turning the corner. Radar run out and back today. Out from 6-12 and got 2 about 20#-22# about 8 am at Otter. Didn't see any other fish caught, but only about 5-6 boats there in the fog.

there is word that you may see jdf opportunities for sockeye soon - if you don't then get dfo to change timing for a planed west coast commercial troll opening for chinook as the timing will have effect on sox. if the planned troll fleet opening goes as planned then it will bode as a non conservation issue for sox and thereby showing affordable abundance levels, in turn giving opportunity to sport anglers.

push for it - sox are coming and in good numbers.

r.
Rape, pillage and kill........ lets push for it...... 11 million coming back.... DFO says that and they must be right.
Was getting them on chovys in tight off Sooke last year an it fell far below expectation.

Would rather leave them and see what happens then bonk em and hear another OOPS..... my .02
Hoping to head west for halis on Sunday and drag for a spring for a couple..... back to reports :D

Hey guys....my report for the last week...definately springs around...sheringham and otter being the best spots...the thing the last few days since those big winds we had is the WEEDS...i worked hard for my spring on tuesday at sheringham...constantly cleaning lines...paid off....watched a few other boats around me not get anything but i also rarely see them check there lines and when they did the flasher anchovie were caked...the weeds were not only on the surface but under the surface...earlier ur out the better as always when the fishing isnt as hot..got 3 springs at the ham before 7 one day last week...but they should be coming by next weekend id bet on it..the average angler will not be saying its slow anymore(I HOPE)...ive given up on my favorite spot possession do to seals...bring some rocks or slingshot when planning on fishing there...they are brutal..yesterday there was 4 around me...WAITING! good luck this weekend locals...gone cut plugging in the haida gwaii:D

Had the opportunity on Tuesday to fly over the area in a friend's private plane from Sooke to Renfrew at about 4pm. It was very interesting to see things from that perspective.

I'm not completely certain what part of the cycle the tides were at, but it looked like things were on a major hard flood. Very interesting that I could see tons of green algae or plankton in the water at the tide line. The water went from bright green to blue about 1/2mi off shore and the line of crap in the water was visible from 2000ft up.

No bait balls or obvious surface activity around the area. At Sheringham onward, you could see some strong wave action still coming in from the Pacific which I'd guess is residual from the windstorm last weekend.
