So this is the first year I have had my boat moored, I've been out quite a bit and have been doing pretty well this year for a noob. I am just wondering what the deal is with sockeye. I have caught/released almost a dozen this year, and many reports that people are posting including releasing sockeye and I am sure people don't always include the fish they release. I am just wondering if the number of sockeye that are being caught is normal? And if they generally open sockeye at a certain time or if it just stays closed? I'd love to be able to keep a few of these guys, there seems no shortage especially in sooke.

Those are late summer run Fraser River fish and there indeed is a shortage this year. Not even FN are supposed to take them which is rare.

I find some that accidentally end up in my tub. I think they must just fall in without me knowing?
Now there is something to be proud of, IFL. Suggestion: If you are going to be a poacher, you should just keep that information to yourself. Otherwise some DICK (like me) from this forum will jump all over you. ;-)

You're an embarrassment to the recreational fishery, IFL. Poaching and bragging about it...come on!! Give yourself a shake.

i would like to think he was joking but not really thinking it through posting in a public forum. Way to garner a little special attention from DFO enforcement.

I have probably caught and released a couple dozen this summer in total, all on bait fishing springs. This doesn't indicate good numbers, just that I'm out a lot. If he numbers were good there would be jumpers all around, but they are scarce this summer. I see more Coho jumping or swirling on top than anything else.
