Meanwhile we all wait with baited breath for the DFO sanctioned chum openings that are on tap for October and November—-you know, the ones that allow all those species-specific drift gill nets, the ones scientifically designed and hung by computer algorithm that select only for female chum?

Maybe a Thompson, Chilcotin, Nahatlatch, or maybe even a last remaining Stein steelhead that fools one of those nets into thinking they are chums?

No...not to worry.... that doesn’t happen in such a clean targeted fishery utilizing species specific drift nets

Pretty sad how the Fraser sockeye fishery has been mismanaged and poached into such low numbers.
30 or so years ago we could commercial fish 3 out of the 4 yr cycle but due to what seems to be a blind eye can’t put a hook in the water now.
Years ago there was stories of semi’s in Fraser canyon being loaded with sockeye and I don’t think anything was ever done.

The Federal government and DFO are not doing anything. Nothing wrong with pointing fingers at this stage. More people know who are doing this than you know.

Unfortunately without it, it would of never made it into the media. Without making it into the media DFO would never of made statements about it and people outside of fishing circles would of never new about it.

Without public backlash resources would not get spent on it. So while finger pointing may make it difficult around the table for some of our reps its worth it IMO.
