Anyone use the smart box with external terminals for trolling motor, charging leads from outboard. Also 12 volt outlet for other accessories. If do what brand. I am looking at the Minn Kota box. Thanks.

I will assume you are referring to an electric trolling motor?
If so the Minn Kota box has everything you need including a manual waterproof reset fuse box. Relatively inexpensive. My question then is where are your batteries located? Important as I made my own from an old standard battery box and stuff I had lying around. For example if you have 55 lb electric you require a 60 amp reset fuse box to protect your motor and depending on the distance from the motor you will require heavier gauge wire. The gauged wire as we know gets expensive and since the Minn Kota rating chart states 6 gauge for my requirement I went to Princess Auto and bought a cheap set of 6 gauge jumper cables, cut the clamps off and then added lug nuts. Works well for me for about $30 but I had the fuse link, box and 12 volt outlet. If you are not handy in my opinion just buy the Minn Kota.

I did buy the minn kota. It has great reviews. 90$ at trotac marine in victoria. It will suit my needs just fine.

I built my own and to be honest, it would have been cheaper to buy the Minn Kota. Minn Kota's chart for my 45# motor says 8 awg for 10' and a 50 amp fuse. I wish the motors came with a longer cable.

I have a separate battery use when fresh water fishing with the electric motor. I wanted the box as i just bought nav lights and wanted the cigarette lighter to power them with when needed.
