single hooks are the way to go. As said tandems cause too much damage but also the little piece of line between the hooks gets nicked very easy and then you have to retie the whole thing. If you get a nick on a siwash setup you can retie the whole setup in 1 minute. Losing time retying gear when the bite is on adds up to a lot of missed fish over the course of a season, every minute counts when the bite is on.
Look on any guide boat, 99% of them will have a single siwash hook. Look in the average newbs tackle box and its all tandem hooks - nuff said.
