Single or double hooks for Hootchies

I am totally confused. In area 23 and 123 can you use hootchies rigged with double hooks or are you only allowed one hook? If it is single only when did that change?

Good question - regardless, I switched over to fish one single hook instead of two singles on all my hoochies and havent noticed any down sides.

Upsides are fewer net tangles, easier to release by-catch, less damage to small fish.

Have always use one siwash 3/0 to 5/0 hook. Same as commercial guys. Much easier to release a single smaller hook if you need to and less fish mortalities.

I use bobber stop, glow beads, swivel, then hook.

I use 5-6 plastic beads. orange beads in a white hootchie is killer.

I will answer the question. There was no change to the regulation. If there was it would have been communicating properly through the Sport Fishing Advisory Board. And yes you can use tandems if you want. It is personal preference if you want to use single or not.

I always use a swivel with a single hook, especially to make releasing easier and better for the fish. To fill the gap for my preferred hook position, I will use fly fishing tube and cut to length.

Any pictures guys? I think I'll switch up to a single on my hoochie rigs. The WCTW glow inserts seem pretty good, I might add a couple orange beads to move a single hook back a bit.

Gave up on the tandem setup years ago. The success rate improved dramaticaly.

I use Rain City's method. Bead or 2 then a swivel with open eye 5/0 hook crimped on.
Puts the hook back at the tail of the hootchie.
It has been highly successful and very easy to release a fish too.

I use this exact Glow white hootchie and lime green combo almost every time I fish

The swivel helps a lot to keep your leader intact. After multiple coho strikes with those crazy teeth, they will be biting on the swivel or the bead more than the leader itself.

If you run your hooks to far back your going to get severe mortality.

Running a single is great (I do it) but you have to pay attention closely to the hook size and how far back you go. I have ran them to far back, and fish inhale them.

Have a look at the catch and release recommendations SFI and UBC put out. It covers a lot of this stuff. @Derby and @searun are fairly knowledgeable as they were the test boats in study.
