Shimano Technium or Gibbs highliner 10’-6” medium for coho

I have this rod set up in between the downriggers buck tailing with a T 14 sink tip, so much fun. I’ve always contemplated attaching the fly rod to the downrigger, but have never done it.
Just use a dummy flasher.

I had Brendan Morrison’s agent Kirt out a few times and he liked catching big springs on that set up dragging cut plugs off the rigger

Pacific Angler sells a custom Okuma with their name on it. I have two for chinook and really like them.

I think the West Coast Tackle rods are Okuma as well, they sure look like it.
No West Coast Tackle are not Okuma. They are OEM China. Not at all saying they are bad, just saying they are not Okuma.

So I got the Gibbs rod based on the fact that it’s a okuma made rod. Fred’s had it on sale. I am going to go pick it up this week. I am heading to Salt Spring for ten days in a week and I will put it through its paces and see how it goes.

I got the rod today and compared it to the okuma. Seems quite similar in build quality. Now have to put it to the test on some fish.

I got some Techniums at the start of the year and have no complaints! The number of guides that run them is a pretty good testament.
