if it has the old plastic drag (dartimun ) washers they get sticky. Carbon fiber is the way to go. grease them with super lube grease.

I run braid, so it's unlikely to be experiencing a warped or cracked spool - no elastic compression effect from layers and layers of wound mono. But if new carbon fiber drag washer's don't fix the problem, then I'll be looking at all the potential issues.

I ordered the carbon drag washer and Cal's drag grease from Mike's for my GT2000. It made a huge difference. It's super smooth now, doesn't pump at all when lowering gear, and easy to adjust the tension. I would highly recommend the drag grease, I put it on my other reels and they all work quite a bit better than before.
