Shearwater Area Reports - Forecast

I got back from the Shearwater area last Friday. Fishing was great. The first day we fished behind Typhoon Island for a few hours trying to escape some rough weather and quickly decided to concentrate on prawns and beer. The next day we fished Cultus Sound and did well with a bucket of Chinook all taken on anchovies. The bellies were filled with needle fish and small herring. The next 2 days we were at Chenny and Idol. Fishing was best at Idol….especially for coho. There were plenty of Coho from Chenny around to Idol Point with a few Chinook mixed in. Most fish were taken on anchovies but once the bait was gone and we went to spoons and plastic, the fishing didn’t appear to slow. Overall really wet with a little wind but a great trip nonetheless.

Hey Guys,

Just got back from shearwater and it was the best Salmon trip of my life so far!!! We brought home 24 salmon the limit for the 3 in my boat the biggest coho was 16.5lbs. Of the 24 Salmon 6 were Chinooks and I caught my first Tyee the fish was in the boat for 6 hours so it may have lost a pound or 2 but it still was way over the tyee mark and it tipped the scales it 54lbs YEEHA. We also brough home a 28lbs a 24lbs and a few teeners!!! The fishing was best at Chenny Point and the water was great Flat to a 4 foot swell so very good. The 54lbs Spring hit a Army Truck hoochie at 75 feet on the rigger in 600 feet of water. We were in the middle of no where fishing far from shore for coho and the Hog hit and peeled 600-700 feet of line on its first run. I will try and put some pics up if I can.

Any reports from the Shearwater area? We’ll be arriving in Spider Anchorage Saturday afternoon for 2 nights on the hook and making our way to Denny Island on Monday for a few nights with a roof over our heads. I’ve heard second hand reports of slow fishing….can anyone confirm? If you’re out there and see us, don’t hesitate to say hi. We’ll be cruising the area in a Blue Harbourcraft 1725 and a blue/white aluminum 32ft crew boat.
