Anybody have any insight about the factory podded Seasport 2200's having bad handling and porpoising issues?

I am looking at one and a friend has told me this is a common issue with these boats made this way.

What's the pod configuration like on that boat? Extended hull surface or more of an extended arm?

I thought I read a post by @Rayvon talking about porpoising on his 19ft.

Extended hull surface pods tend to run better and are easier to set motor mounting height and choose props for.

I think porpoising was only a problem with the Skipper 1900 with the single bracket. I'm sure Seasport used the 22 mold with a plug in the back to produce the 1900,so the balance of the hull was thrown off. Mine is getting a full extension pod soon like "MrWood" did on his.

Most often then not porpoising is to do with the set up. Engine height, weight distribution ….Sometime like in Raymon’s case just a poor design.
My 22 has the same style as the factory pod. No issues, my hourston with same style no issues, my old Grady with the same style(Armstrong) no issues

19 and 22 seasport have different beams, not the same plug.

When you say "Factory" pod ,do you mean a bracket like mine has,or a hull extension pod. Mrwood's hull extension pod proves it has solved the porpoising of his 1900 skipper.

I couldn't see the difference, but your right, the 19 has an 8 ft. beam and the 22 is 8 ft.6". So my theory of it being out of the same mold is blown all to hell. But I'm sticking to my belief that it's the bracket causing the porpoising, not the hull design.Proven by Mrwood.

I was under the assumption your boat has a factory bracket. Different hulls by design require different brackets. In the case of Mr.Woods the extension style works great.
On my 22 had I gone with the extension style following the hull I would have had too much flotation. Getting my engine height right along with proper propping eliminated porpoising. I can cruise at 30 no tabs and lots of trim just at the point of cavitation and no porpoising.

The boat came from factory with the bracket shown,it was never an inboard boat.I've changed my engine height twice and tried 4 different props (3 and 4 blade) and I think it's as good as I can get it,but not good enough. I'm convinced that a hull extension pod will solve the porpoising and raise the stern enough that scuppers will drain without backing up.I expect to be able to plane faster, cruise at less RPM and probably better fuel economy when I get rid of the bracket that works fine on some boats but not this one. It's about a $6000 fix but worth it in the end I think.I'll gain a swim grid and both motors will line up better for steering.

I agree a hull extension style is what you want. Proven on Mr woods
