Anybody have any problem with the switch crapping out on their
electric downrigger's ??
Left side today, no power. Cleaned the plug, tried again, nothing.
When i got home, i pulled it off and tried it on the right side,
(which worked fine), still no go.

In fact, yes, similar issue just this week. Plug in one of the riggers and it automagically starts to retrieve.

I called Scotty and the switches are covered under a Lifetime warranty. Island Outfitters does their service.

I had the same prob with mine. Only a year old, I removed the faulty switch and took it to tyee marine. They gave me a whole new assembly no questions asked!

Same here on two year olds. Had to crank from 180ft that was fun.
Took it in at Islander outfitters no problems since.

cheers

Sounds like a few people have had this happen. Scotty should include an extension cord where if one plug craps out you can get the extension cord and use power from the other side of the boat to haul up the gear.

It would also be easy to make one of these yourself.

Are you guys talking about the new plugs that Scotty makes - I've had mine on for over a year and there is no sign of corrosion and never had hint of a problem with the new style.
They specifically went to a company that made marine electrical connectors to get the best connection possible.

My issue appears to be with a faulty switch rather than the connector.

Finaddict: Yes, I am a member of the Striper Owners Club (SOC -- www.seastriper.com) and posted a couple of pics from a haul out I did yesterday so I could wax the hull (salmon like a waxed hull).

Thanks Tenmile, I saw the photos. Very nice boat, but I would have been a little nervous about the sling locations. A little more bow forward than I would have been comfortable with.

To everyone else, my apologies about the thread hi-jack. "Now back to your regularly stationed topic"
