Scotty Downrigger

Just took my riggers in for annual servicing . Once again I was overwhelmed by how helpful the staff was and how well they stand behind their product. I have nothing to do with this company but just felt that if a guy can vent about poor products and service, he should also applaud companies that do a good job. Wish more companies were like Scotty.

X2 I broke one of my downriggers hauling a 70lb halibut over the gunnel last season. Didn't lie about how I broke it. Repaired for free while I waited.

Had them replace breaks etc. before too its always done quickly with no questions asked. They usually put new cannon ball clips on for me too AND return the old ones. All for free while you wait. Outstanding service.

X3 Great lifetime warranty and free service if you buy their cable ect.

That’s why I own 5 of their riggers including 2 HP’s. Also impressed by their commitment to design improvement; free upgrading with stronger parts etc.

We are indeed lucky to have factory drop off and pick up service in our back yard.

It is the kind of service that buys brand loyalty and has allowed Scotty to dominate the BC market.

I take mine to Harbour Chandler in Nanaimo...It will cost you what it costs for them to ship it to Victoria for them to service the rigger...Around 15-18 dollars i recall. I dont think offsite locations do the servicing for free anymore.

I had the brake return spring snap on one rigger so took it in for re: re plus overhaul/ new brake pads was done. Great service, I agree. The designated Scotty repair facility that I used was on the mainland and charges a flat $10 for repair/parts and overhaul. I saw the actual cost of the bill and it looked to be around $40 . I suspect this flat fee of $10 would be the case now for all Scotty repair facilities - my work was done onsite at this location so no shipping charge. Scotty stipulates that you must be the original owner of the downrigger so the rigger S/N has to be registered to you ( not a second hand purchase registered to a previous owner). If the S/N is registered to another person then the shop wil bill you the full amount of parts and labour. If you never registered your downrigger then register it online prior to your repair. It is my understanding that if you have 2nd hand downriggers that are not registered with anyone previously that you can then register them in your name. If the rigger has been deemed abused, submerged or otherwise damaged by reasons that were your own doing, warranty is void. Aso if you open the downrigger motor housing the warranty is void.
