Scotty Downrigger Repair

I am replacing the power switch on a high performance Scotty Downrigger. I had to pull the motor to attach the new wires. Now I can’t get the motor to seat back into the downrigger properly. It sits up too high. itseems to be getting stuck on something. Is there a trick to getting the motor to re-seat?

Just have to be patient and make sure the relay is seated properly. If I recall, there is a little box-like spot in the corner of the motor recess for the relay. Unfortunately they don’t give you much extra wire to work with.

Cougar Gold, the bottom of the motor fits into a specific spot that is tricky to get it in. Try to line it up centered and drop it in and turn it until it falls into the spot. It takes a bit of work but you will get it.

If it doesn't drop in it will sit to high like you said.

Thanks,

Mike

A little bit of a late reply.I had to change magnetic switch myself as the local tackle shop had a back log of a few weeks.
Anyway, putting it back together was a pain in the butt due to the wiring and unable to get the motor back in to its proper place (sitting far too high).
Eventually,I found a thread in which SharpHooks suggested separating the motor(taking it out of the casing) from the rest.It worked a treat as it allowed you to push all the wires into place and then slotting the motor into its proper place, after that just reconnecting the motor.
If I can do it anybody can.
