High speed 2106 Scotty downrigger power stuck on

My high speed 2106 Scotty started winding in all by itself while fishing today.
Would not stop and now is always on. Have to plug and unplug power cord to use it.
Think I probably need a new power switch.

2 questions:
- Anything I can do/check while on our trip?
- Will a power switch from an older 1106 downrigger work? I have one.

Thanks!

Probably not the switch itself, but the internal relay. I had one go a couple years ago, but my problem was the opposite - it would turn on.

You can get them from your local Scotty service center.

You will have to pull the motor cover to diagnose or replace either the switch or the relay regardless. Pull the cover and give the relay some good taps while it's running. The contacts are probly stuck together. The switch wires to the relay also so can unplug those to rule them out

It's actually way easier to pull the drive gear from the motor first and pull the cover leaving the motor in place.

Ya I suspect the relay too.
We are in Renfrew and no parts here.

If you can isolate the part, maybe ask around the guides -- some of them may have parts. Or put the word around at the marina and the hotel pub. Scotty could even courier the part from Sidney now that its Monday [or Island Outfitters or Trotac in Victoria].

Or do the Gong Show method, there are two wires, cut and strip.
Hold them together and she's going.
Fun with wet hands and not getting the wires to touch.
Did this for three days out of Port Hardy this year.
