You can get it serviced or just order a new switch and install it yourself. They fail eventually.

Maybe wired backwards.

Ive had the same issue. Downrigger would just do whatever it wanted. Turn on randomly. Stop on the way up. Had it serviced at Barry's. Problem solved. Was some kind of thermal something
