Is the wind that bad..... I will be heading out the inlet in a 20ft. deep chine boat that handles the chop well and was wondering if it is really necessary to start out from Port Albirni by 11 AM. We are planning on getting to PA by 11:15 then launching by 1 P.M. We will be up from the 26th to the First of Sept.

IF you dont mind bucking the wind and tide go for it..We always run up there as early as possible..flat calm and pedal to the metal.30 mph to BAMFIELD=1 hour

I've done it the last 2 trips at the worst time of day in my 19'. It's not real comfortable and takes longer, but is manageable. You would think that one side of the inlet or the other would provide some shelter, but the chop actually stretches across the entire width. It is a little better is you hug the side, but not much.
Make sure you have all eyes looking for dead heads, they hide in the troughs and sometimes float vertical.
Have fun.

Depends on the day.Hot in Port Alberni means wind in the inlet.Nahmint Bay is the worst I have found. They can REALLY stack up through there.Backatit is right about the deadheads, some of them are standing on end and bobbing up and down.Keep a sharp eye open for them.Your're going to be taking a few over the bow most likely,I've done lots of trips down the inlet early is best.Dan
