The Govt. said they where going to spend some money on the road. Has any work been done or does anyone know when they
will start?

Dont have a place there so maybe dont have a right to comment but I kinda hope it stays the
way it is, change will make it a ONLY MONEY counts area, just like a bridge to the island from the mainland ... Make it a bit of a issue to get there and keep the googans out IMHO and 2 cents
You are not wrong. Last summer we were flagged down by two couples in their 911's at the end of the pavement. They wanted to know how the road was to Bamfield. I said "No good for you." "But we have reservations at a B&B!" they said. I suggested they go back to Port and rent a truck. So it begins for the next Tofino.

Point taken but Bamtown will have to fight Port Renfrew tooth 'n nail for those dollars-remember 2 years ago when PR was the Next Big Thing?

Has the legal status of the road been settled? Ie, is it an FSR or a highway? No clear path to funding for upgrading or maintenance until that is dealt with.

i think 33 million has been appointed, all the survey work has been done, engineering next, trouble culverts and steep corners have been started for now. i see the money being burned through before one metric tonne of chip seal is even placed.

After all the money our governments are spending for covid vaccines, relief benefits, etc. I would be surprised if there is any money left for the bamfield road...

Won’t be long before Bamfield will be over run with tourists with a nice road

The road will get put in to bolster the tourism .... Then shut down the fishing in the area, whale watching and anything remotely involving aquatics .... oh except sit on shore and looking :( (eh at least the ferraris , porshe and lambos will have a great test track )

They could put the brakes on whale watching right now without spending a cent on the road. Not shut them down but at least cap the daily hours and give the whales a break. Frickin relentless as it is now, in summer there are boats on the whales almost 16 hours a day

I'm from Prince George and utilized the backcountry for over 40 years there, The Banfeild and most the other backroads on the Island that I've been on are simular to the back road up north about thirty years ago. The small amount of money earmarked for Banfeild will not get chip seal for the Ferraris but bringing Island backroads into this century would be nice. All the closed roads due to logging is also a non issue in the north, very sad here.
