Rivers Inlet Regs

Is there a regulation on the size of weights you can use when fishing Rivers? For some reason an 8oz maximum sticks in my head.

I think we ran 5's and 6's last year but we may re-do our setup and would like to use heavier weight to do so.

Also, unrelated to the Rivers fishery, I read in an older issue of the tidal regs that 3 lbs is the maximum weight, or lure weight, you can use when fishing for sport. Is that still the case or did I somehow pull these facts out of thin air??

not that I'd want to reel up anything heavier, but curious why this reg is in place?

Edit: To answer my own question, was for once able to located something quickly on the pac.dfo site,

"All Species: Jun 1-Sept 15: Rivers Inlet Special Management Zone – in those waters of Rivers Inlet inside a line between fishing boundary signs located at Rutherford Point and McAllister Point: no person shall angle with a fishing line or downrigger line which is attached to a weight that is greater than 168 grams (6 ounces) or an attracting device that is not affixed directly to a hook."

..looks like memory did not serve correct on this one :P

Is 8oz a size typical to cut plugging on the Wcoast? I haven't run a lot of bait, but would like to try (with a chance to be successful) ....basically do I have a use for the 30 or so 8oz balls I just poured?? haha

It is 6 ounces max if you fish East of a line between McAllister Pt and Ruterford Pt. Spots like Kilbella Point and Marker 16 will be in this area. It is a slow troll game so 6 ounces should be plenty in here from what i understand. Just want to get under that silty layer.

8oz is a no-no up at the head of Rivers. West of the line you can use riggers if I'm not mistaken...although I saw many a boats with 8oz sinkers at the head....with DFO paying regular visits my guess is it is not as strictly regulated as the barbs on your hooks are...
