Hi All -

New to the forum - so hello to all. Took me a bit to get past that captcha authentication :) I am going to be up in the Vancouver area next week and am in the market for a Yami 8 kicker. Anyone have a suggestion on the best place to shop for price? Thanks in advance for any recommendations. Tight lines...

I bought mine from Capstan Marine in Richmond.
Galleon in Richmond.
Galleon in Langley (not the same as in Richmond)
There is also a Yamaha Dealer in North Vancouver.

I priced out one last year, tried every dealer on the Island and Lower mainland.Galleon in Langley had the best price.Dan

Try the US Washington. Its worth the drive and if you put it on your boat you can just bring it back home no issue, no questions.
I found a new yamaha with starter, you should find one for about $600 to $1000 less than Galleon and Capstan Marine. The Canadian retailers are still gouging. Capstan Marine told me to go to Galleon in Richmond. Other choice is Yamaha Checkpoint in Port Moody. Galleon in Langley droped the line for Mercury. another place that they are in stock usually is around Cowachin on the Island.

I just bought the last one from Capstan, and they are not keeping them in inventory any more. It was a new but previous year model.

Galleon in Richmond seemed to have them in stock.

Fishin' anywhere anytime for anything

Careful with that. Yamaha Canada does not honor Yamaha USA claims. So if you have a problem with your motor be prepared to go to the states to fix it.
They will also ask you at the border of any purchases so if your willing to keep your mouth shut you will save the taxes. Just don't let them close to the new motor. I swear they can smell it ;) A bunch of hounds at the border I can vouch for that. hehehe

cheers

I bought a 150 hp yammi at brown's landing north of portland ( no sales tax in portland) for 6000 less than I could find in the lower mainland. they had t8 for sale high thrust power trim elec start for I think 2400 -2600. yes you do have to go to the states for warrenty but there are dealers in blaine and bellingham. I only had to pay gst and pst at the border. they have better insentive there. I got three years extended for nothing up here they were offering a stainless prop big deal

Capstan no longer does retail outboard sales. Thats what they told me the last time I stopped in there. They sell Grady Whites, and I guess they figured there wasn't enough money in only selling the motors. Too bad I'd bought from them before and found them good to deal with.

Thanks all for your input. Actually I live in northern WA. I was told to look at Yamahas in BC as the pricing was more competitive there :) - grass is always greener I guess...

Going to start contacting some the WA State distributers but I'll probably still stop by one or two shops while up in BC. Thanks all!

A few years ago your dollar was worth quite a bit more up here and that was probably the case based solely on exchange. Now it is us doing the cross-border dealing.

I usually deal with SG power, but the across border pricing is really something else.

BTW, I have never had to have warranty on any of my kickers, and I am really not up on looking after them. For the money you save, you are better off to run south as long as you are not paying an arm and a leg for ferries.

Auburn Sports and Marine will give you the best deal from what I have heard. Good luck.
