Watching last nights Hells Kitchen and they had to cook this rare white alaskian king salmon. Worth over $400. Like WTF....Rare??? Looked just like any other white spring. They even filleted it and it looked just like a not so rare white spring salmon.

Am I missing some thing????
Wonder what a marbled spring would be worth...LOL

I read some articles a while back about the white spring being prized in markets as far away as New York.
some people view the white flesh as a delicacy, much more so than red.
It's good smoked, quite a bit more oil than than most reds.

We picked up a 29lb white Sunday off Otter. I'll be pulling it out of the smokers when I get home from work. Had no idea they were rare though.

Big august fish on the island are often whites. Vedder, cap, harrison and likely alot of other rivers get them. Even a few that go up the SSS.

Kelly Im talking May June fish were all whites and most were heading to Pudget Sound rivers Im assuming because they were abundant. Big Q, Little, Puntledge, Cowichan, Stamp are all pretty dominant red. I know Harrison are predominate White. Dont those fish mostly migrate up JDF?? Ive caught mostly red since Mid Aug, one large white end Aug out in the middle.

It is called marketing fellas! Someone figured out a way to market what was once a 'toss away' salmon for no reason other than the colour of the flesh. I've seen it for $18usd/lb at Pike Place in Seattle. Wish I had thought of it...

This is going down a weird road. The topic was start as they said a Rare White King Salmon. I have not ever seen a Rare White King Salmon worth more then any other King/Spring Salmon. Is there a rare white Salmon in Alaska? No. Is any white salmon worth over $400....NO

There are tons of White Springs out there. Maybe one should start a Charter Service Part time called White King Charters. Cause if the are worth that much you could make a killing taking people out the catch them.

I categorize all of my wife's shows like this, and reality shows into one channel, and named it "CRAP TV"

LOL

They used to call it Alaskan pearl salmon to make it sound better. I guess it worked
