Rain Gear?

Rain gear is an investment. I bought a pair of Gor-Tex bibs in 1998 at a Bass Pro Shop in Chicago. Paid $300. USD. I've used them on every single fishing trip, camping trip, hiking, skiing, sledding, and they also lived thru 4 yrs guiding in NWT/Nunavut. Still use the bastards. Just hose 'em off, wash 'em when needed, good as new. Friggin luv 'em. 100% water proof and breathable. No gear sweat. I'll never use rubber again.

Hey Fish Assassin, how 'bout Gor-Tex Speedo's?

Gore-Tex can't be beat - nice & dry on the inside - no condensation. Not necessarily expensive either. I couldn't go back.

Since my wife works for Helly Hansen (Leisure) I have a few coats. Helly Tech, Tech XP and O2. I will be using the XP this weekend when I get the pontoon boat out for a weekend of fly fishing in the Merritt area.

Cheers, Rob

I have been in Helly's "sailing" gear for a number of years and it's been great. I usually just wear the pants with a fully waterproof North Face shell on as well as it's less bulky than the sailing jackets I have. I wear the bibs up over the shell so everything is pretty much tucked in except my Noggin. This keeps me bone dry from the weather and it also breathes really quite well.

The only thing I don't like with the latest pants they've put out as they don't have the 'breast pockets' like you can see under my right arm anymore. I am not 100% positive they aren't on there but from just looking at the Helly site unless they are hidden under a seam they may have got rid of them. I am in the market for new pants this year and it's gonna be the same sort of Helly ones again or the Simms as noted below.

In saying that I am not sure if anyone has seen them yet but Simms has come out with some weather gear that is pretty darn good from all I have heard.

is water not gonna flow down yer pants with that set-up of jacket inside yer pants?.....just sayin....holmes*

I have spilled a beer down the front of me IN a rain storm as I had the tab of the can in my teeth while setting the hook on a fish (some call this multi-tasking), and nothing made it down to my "junk" or lower extremeties. ;)

But seriously I have never had an issue......if I did then I could just put the shell over top. I just prefer the lightweight waterproof/goretex type material shells as they are less bulky than the jackets I have that go with the pants. I think you mentioned it earlier in one of your posts as to less bulk being great when you're moving around, running lines etc. These pants do have an "elastic" component built into them which also helps to keep water from running down. I guess if I was standing in a torrential downpour I may have some "leakage" but that is one of the reasons they built tops/canvas for boats. ;) I do have to say though the jacket is every bit as good as my sailing jacket for keeping me dry and a relatively inexpensive option to include in the weather gear stuff in my closet; I think that shell was just over $100 and being so lightweight it packs up easy and makes an easy solution for layering.

holmes....have a look at that Simms stuff. One of the local fishing shop/charter business owners apparently tested it out for Simms last year and said it was great stuff. I just inquired about it a week or so ago and he gave it 2 thumbs up.
