I agree as I just installed a Furuno. It works well and sure makes me feel a LOT more comfortable. My GPS always tells me where I am, but knowing where those other boats are is a big help.

I have a Furuno Model 1623. It is compact, inexpensive and works great with better/more features than the JRC 1500 in my opinon. I got mine for a great price from a seller from Florida on eBay.

As far as transferring position data it should be but it wouldn't be displayed on the Lowrance Screen, Lowrance has domes of their own if you have a new enough GPS unit you can add it. 2006-Newer if I am not mistaken.

Raymarine C120....much cheaper than the E120, and honestly the best you can find...amazing screen, whether in the dark in the morning or during the day. Picks up amazingly on the sonar too.

Curiousity why did you go E120 over C120? Were you planning on going multi screen/ networked? If not the C120 would have been a cheaper option as mentioned above. Both Great units!!

I went with the E120, as I was going to roll with Navionics Platinium, as well as use the VGA and camera inputs for a solid state computer, and a FLIR camera at some time. Seeing as FLIR is darn near 10 grand, it's going to have to wait unless there is a cheaper version available.

The whole idea behind the FLIR is to actually see the ships in the fog, as opposed to guessing if they are going to miss you by an obscure radar blip. Once they (the ships) get within about half a mile, it's really hard to determine if they are going by you are not. Where I fish for Hali's, if I am on a dynamite drift, and I can be assured of being safe on the drift, it makes life a lot easier then trying to get three or four hali rods up in a flash, run away, and see if the darn thing is going by or not.

Anyway, that's why I went with an E120, and I didn't pay anywhere NEAR that for it :D

About 1600 bucks thats all go see the boys at trotac I personally run the 1500 and have no problem with it!!!I want to see boats when you have it all tunes in you can see your wake and others on it.
What more do you want it is just a radar !!!!!

Hey gypseas,

I too am new to the radar thing. I just picked up a JRC 1500 this week. $1499 @ Steveston marine. I think West marine has same price. Looking forward to using it.
