1991 175 Double Eagle. 2018 Yamaha F115.
After moving my fuel tank from stern to center deck, new seat boxes and adding forward fish hold, my weight distribution has changed. With the current 17 pitch prop I was getting great hole shot but my bow was holding low and I wasn’t getting the range of trim I’d like.
Yesterday I went out in the calm waters of Saanich inlet to test a couple props. Just me on board.
Started with the 17 pitch aluminum Yamaha prop. Great hole shot. WOT 5900 rpm 35 mph. 4200 rpm 24.5 mph. 3800 rpm 20 mph. Bow stays low at higher speeds.
Changed to 19 pitch Yamaha aluminum prop. 5700 rpm at WOT. 37 mph.
Cruise 22 mph at 3800 rpm and 25 mph at 4000 rpm. Sounded better, handled better and bow was higher with more trim range.
But hole shot was a bit slower and sounded to be working harder out of the hole. Concern with the lack of hole shot would be pulling Hali anchor and trips where I am loaded with 3 people , cooler and gear.
So now do I buy stainless 19 pitch to improve hole shot and I’m gold?
