You hit the nail on the head regarding Prince Rupert. The fishing can be amazing but the town itself lacks a lot of support for fisherpeople.
Some small businesses (like Dollies and the tackle shop at the south end of town) go out of their way with customer service. Other businesses treat anglers like a nuisance and/or money machines.
I don't like to pay $35 a night for a campsite, or pay $5 to park at the marina for half an hour to watch boats. One tackle shop wanted $152 for a chicken rod that I had just paid $29 for in Terrace. When I politely tried to point that out to the gentleman running the show, he got a bit abrupt.
Lessons from Rupert:
1. launch at Port Edward
2. cheap motels often cater more towards the recreational angler crowd.
3. stealth camp if necessary.
With the economy of Pr. Rupert the way it is, you would think that city council and the Chamber of Commerce would make more effort to encourage this type of tourism rather than concentrating on cruise ship traffic and ???
I'll go back there as often as I can, but its for the fishing not the services of the town.
Just my opinion.
