Calgary Guy

Heading up there June 28th-July 4th. Can't wait. Living in pemberton BC, so normally fish WCVI Barkley sound ,Tofino, Nootka and Kyuquot sound, but make it up that way once a year for the highlight fishing trip of the year. Fishing around Dundas and Zayas islands.Last year went a little later for furious coho action. Going earlier this year looking for some monster chinooks and hali. I'll also have a report for after those dates. Good luck and maybe see ya out there. We'll be on a 28' harbercraft king fisher. " PLAN B TOO"

Calgary Guy,
How long ru fishing and whereabouts?
Woody
The name on my boat is Tangled leader, will be fishing Goble Point, humpbach Bay,Hooper Point off of Stephen's Island, if the fishing is slow will probably head up to Dundas
Good luck to you all and if you see us out there swing by and say Hi

Cheers
Doug

Calgary Guy, Woody and Tangled Leader. That end of June first week of July is prime big chinook time in the Prince Rupert area, and you have the place (Dundas) right on the money. Places like Arniston Point and Boat Harbour are usually gaurantees for big fish during this time. As well the "Brain", "Balls", and "Wall" are usually very good as well.

The southern spots such as Humpack Bay, Edye Pass, and Squatterie should be good as well, but my money would be on the Dundas area at that time of year if you are looking for big springs, and lots of them. You just need to monitor the weather if you are going to hit the west side of Dundas as it is exposed. However in a 28' Harbercraft that should not be an issue.

Honestly guys, I have no idea where we will be fishing. Though I was with this outfit last year, I do not recall any names of places.

We will be fishing with Salmon King Adventures. His lodge is in Dodge cove.

That was sure encouraging to read about the time frame. I think I will go to bed dreaming of FINALY boating a 30# + Salmon. Its been way way to long not to have one.

Any Cohos at that time of year? I see them being caught over on the QCI

Thanks
Calgary Guy

Enjoy the SIX INCH biting flies on around DUndas- they'll drive you crazy- we found that a Bee-Keeper head protector helps to LIVE greatly- man it is frigging crazy with those damn flies.

Sheephnter,

I agree the bugs up there can be terrible, however I have only ever found them to be a problem at Boat Harbour. That said, we were swarmed, we must have been tasty.

We fished the whole area on North side of island for 5 days a couple years ago, and the damn flies drove us NUTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, and HURT like hell!

I am just saying- IF you go there, be aware- you need a head net of some kind to keep your sanity.

Fishing can be great there though- even with the damn flies

The bug net just impedes your cartridge to mouth re-fueling station. We havn't noticed them the last couple years? Like the sounds of the trip timing and location for big springs! I gotta beat 33lbs. personally... Counting the sleeps. Starting the trip Jet boating the Upper Macgregor and jarvis rivers east of PG for a day of wild rapid action then onto Rupert for a week...STOKED!

We will be there and ready to fish on June 28th & will stay until about July 12th. I am not sure on where we will fish, however we did really well at goble point and Humpback a couple years ago. It sounds like we may take a venture to Dundas for a day or two.

You guys and the bug stories have got me scared that I will evaporate into bug food or be carried away!

What I really want to know is .... how has everbody done up until this point? I have only heard rumors that it is not bad but not really great.

A friend from work is there now with his own boat, Brother inlaw is heading there tommorow
both fishing Dundas area, will know mid/late next week how they all did, will post report.

Cheers

Heading into the Work channel on the 24th of June. May look at Dundas if there is nothing in the area for springs. Not really looking forward to the "bugs" if I do end up there. I heard some good report from a week ago in the area. Good Luck all and maybe we'll see you out there.

Springs seem to be everwhere now, especially towards the Dundas area. Saw a 52.5 lber come in over the weekend from the east side of Dundas. A true pig. Lots of coho coming in now as well, they are early for up here. On the small side but getting bigger.

Hey Guys, got an email from friend fishing in Rupert, Springs 18-28#,coho from 4-12#, he said lots of coho around, they are fishing Dundas area. They also fished Avery an said pretty good around there also.

Cheers

Sounds like there will be some good stories to share next week. Anyone try using bait busters for something different to throw at them? I would like to try a few different things while I'm out there.

KEEP THOSE LINES TIGHT GUYS..

Alberta Mad Dog. I have tried bait busters, and just about everything else out there. They will work, however nothing seems to beat the good old fashioned cut-plug herring. It is the go to rig most of the time. If not it is usually Herring or Chovy in a helmet. Hootchies and other lures are usually used sparingly when the bite not on and you are trying to make something happen.

I used the bait busters 2 years ago and had really good luck with them, in fact I would say they were outfishing the bait in helmuts.
I just got a report from a fellow today that just returned from Rupert and he said the fishing was just starting to get really good as he was having to come home.
