hey everyone,
i have fished port ed area last year and had a great time salmon fishing and very good success with rock fish as well. Next year we are planning on fishing the same area and would like to focus more on being successful with halibut. I am wondering if anyone here has fished the port ed area that can point me in the right direction, i have herd locals talk about hazel point i went over there to fish halibut but i think i was in the wrong spot because i was fishing 200-250ft of water but from what a local was saying the hazel point area is only 100 yards long and 40-50ft deep? and they sit on the top of a rock pile?

any info is good info!

thanks, Mike

We have fished the south side of Dundas with a lot of success, we usually fish between 100ft and 165ft. We have also fished out in the Humps, usually around 350ft. Jann

Jann,
thanks for the info. I mostly fish around stepahens and porcher island. I have fished that area you speak of with a charter for halibut but it got rough really fast and only pulled up a 15lber. Still had tons of fun and learned a ton.

My wife use to live in Port Ed and we would go out in her parents cartopper so couldn't venture far and they use to catch halibut out by the cans off of Kitson Island in about 100-120' of water. I got an 80 lber off Holland Rocks and Green Top area's. I've heard the halibut come further in and up towards Hazel point more in August when they're following the pinks. We only fished Hazel Point once and followed her cousin who showed us the spot and if I remember correctly it was something like 80-120' deep hole and was fairly close to shore. My father inlaw always looked for holes to anchor and mooch for the halibut. Much of the bottom in that area is relatively flat so just need to find where bait would pile up on the bottom. Good Luck!

cool thanks for all the info! any luck out at west/east kinahan island? (aka horse shoe island)

Since we had a small skiff we didn't fish too far so I only fished Kinahan once and we didn't catch any halibut but they can be in that area as we know others that fish around there for hali.
