prawning

any free boat launches in the brentwood bay area? there is one on " boat ramp rd" when i look on google earth but looks like it might be on a reserve ?

Prawning was great on the last day, they were all huge, some with eggs!

On the way back in to Cow Bay, there were acres of Chum from Wain Rock to Cherry Point. lots of wildlife chasing them around too. A great show for the family.

Cant get any pictures posted, the forum links are MIA ???

I haven't tried prawning or crabbing close to goldstream but I do see floats out when driving the hat so people are deffinetly out there. I remember hearing the spill was all taken care of and it's all good in the inlet but who really knows I think the oil booms are still across the river who knows for how long. The prawns in the inlet may now have two purposes. First you huff them to get a nice buzz from the diesle and then you take care of the munchies by eating them.

I have pulled a lot of striped prawns out of Saanich inlet. Has anyone pulled other species out (eg spotted?)

Was out yesterday up in the satellite channel. Not much up there. Beauty day out though. Lots of porpoises, sea lions and chum swimming around and splashing.
150 was our final number. Not bad but like 300 more. Ha

Anyone have any success pawning in Juan de Fuca?

Secure Prawn traps to a halibut anchor

Any good idea's out there? It would be a great way to fish for both at the same time and be assure the tides wouldn't take your trap

I'll usually put a 15 pound ball into the center of my traps. they will tend to roll around with the current but who knows...the motion should attract many more crab than usual and therefore the prawns will come and eat the remains from what the crab has left. It's great that they share the oceans' many foods. Too bad us humans can't.:(
now theres a hellava trick crab and prawns in the same trap, How bout posting a pic of your "dual purpose" Traps

Yup. That's why you don't want to leave them out too long. You will also get octopus and fish. We are not the only ones who like prawns.

I have pulled up my prawn trap and found a couple small crab had got in and eaten some of the prawns ?.

Second that. If I've got crabs in my traps then I've got lots of prawn carcasses as well.

Forgot 2 mention the starfish. They love a captive prawn population
