200-400 feet is usually a pretty good spot.Hello everyone , I’m headed for a trip to bamfeild from the 1-15
I’ll be doing the regular fishing for Hali and salmon and lincod, however I’m debating bringing my prawn traps, was just wondering if it’s worth bringing up in August and where I’d have any luck dropping them .
They are a nightmare200-400 feet is usually a pretty good spot.
For real though I found they were pretty wiped out in the couple spots I tried, and that was in July. I'm sure you could try harder than I did though. Got a couple of those slimy things and gave up on that disaster.
I almost just left them there. Disgusting.slime eels are easy, just be brave. lol
keep the trap under water, open the door or mesh, reach in and flip it out of the trap with out breaking the surface.

Oooooh that's what he was sending me. I had a guy send me that exact screenshot by accident the other day lol. This spot is hagfish free and produces okayish. Usually stuffed full of other people’s traps.
Is the pacific rim park closed to trapping? I didn’t find anything stating that though only spent 10 minutes looking - spear fishing yes. This screenshot removing a slime eel is from a video I took at that very spot. They aren't too difficult to deal with, and as @trophywife says, keep the trap in the water, locate the eel and remove it. You still will get some slime but even that isn't so bad. I keep a spray bottle of vinegar on board and spray the slime with it, the vinegar breaks it down so it's not so tenacious. Then I just hose it off with my washdown hose.
If putting traps in that area, just watch that you stay out of the park.

My bad. Thought it was closed to fishing in the park, I always thought that Prawns were considered shellfish. Live and learn I guess. You can fish traps in the park
rain-cityboyI almost just left them there. Disgusting.
Haha, you're not wrong!rain-cityboy
You gotta have a solid slime to reward ratio, in all aspects of life.Ran into some of those slime eels a few years back. Apparently they are considered a delicacy in some countries. I took a couple back through all the slime one day and tried throwing them on the bbq after gutting/skinning them as youtube instructed me to. They actually were not bad at all, tasty even. BUT the slime to reward ratio was not good enough for me to do it again. I'd rather stay far away from them lol.
