Prawn Connery

I have pencil lead threaded around my traps. Never use big weights on the line itself. Traps are a couple pounds each ish never had a problem with traps moving. 10lbs on the line is quite excessive IMO unless your dropping your traps in a tide rip.

My line weights are go keep my floating line down not to hold the traps in place 1 pound max.

Mine are in the open, exposed to current and heavy winds. 95% of missing traps are not stolen; they just float away or fall off the drop-off. I've watched my traps drift away with a 7lb cannon ball on the line.

Well i put the traps to the test tonight off five fingers.. i weight the traps how i said n put the 5lb coated weight on a scotty clip on the line 25 feet out front, dropped em in 350 feet , I never lowerd the trap i tossed em over the side at a slow troll, carefully setting out the line. they must have landed ok because i managed to bag about 6 prawns..in each trap on a 2 hour soak.. regardless the bounty, it was fun, cant wait to do it again... and find some better ground..The new Ace line puller worked awesome... anyone has any better location for prawning around Nanaimo im all ears.

Cant speak to Nanaimo area, but if you're down in Victoria, and willing to wear a blindfold, I will take you to my honey hole. No other bouys for as far as the eye can see. No body to rip off your traps either.

Thanks for the offer Prawn Connery..i am going to the Spot prawn festival in cowbay today, should find some info there, i have also herd of great locations around ladysmith /Chemanis area, i like to be able to switch from prawning to salmon fishing well they soak... but that being said i dont want my traps going south or being raided.

First year prawning so YMMV. Redden in CR set up my lines and sold me 1 1/2 lbs. folding grapnel anchors with clips to put on 15' after last trap. Traps I had were Ladners with 2- 1 lb. weights per trap. Works like a hot damn.

Anchors are cheap imports so if you do hook bottom the pin on the fold down leg will break, apparently. Haven't had that happen yet so no first hand experience.

Love that shop.
