Hmm 6 traps between 4 licenses...............
hope none go to waist

You are allowed four traps per person.... I cant see a problem?.... unless they were caught in the Saanich Inlet yesterday.

Yes but the daily limit doesn't change,
3 days prawning equates to 600 per license, that's why I figure there was 4 of them fishing unless I read the regs wrong and please correct me if I did

Possession is the key word as once the catch reaches your fridge then possession starts over again. That is my take on the reg. Enjoy the prawns. P. s. If you feel you have too many I can pick up some later this week and relieve some of that guilt.

Correct left coaster but the possession limit only applys if your not returning home each day. If he went on a 3 day camping trip he can take 400 per lic but if he is leaving and returning home he can fish every day it's open and take 200 per day per lic.

It looks like a lot of prawns but I do the same thing hit em hard and load up for the year on a few trips instead of trying to scrape up a couple meals every time out.

newfie is right, possesion means possesion away from residence. So you'd need 4 liscences fishing for 3 days and all parties taking their prawns to their home for this to be legal. Not saying OP was doing anything illegal, greedy maybe but legal if he had 3 buddies with him each day.

I'd suggest all fishermen take what they need or can eat in a reasonable amount of time.

Makes sense, I always do a couple trips a year up in Toba Inlet to get my prawns for the summer and we stay overnight so I always follow the possession limit rule. Prawning out front of Powell River where I live has been bad so daily limits arn't usually and issue.

The wife made awesome prawn tacos on the weekend! Good Stuff

Here we go white!

Hurtlocker I know you enjoy a good prawn feast! Prawns and townsite beer. Now lets get off the web and go whack some springs

You sound like a bunch of old women. Hey ***** nice prawns...was that so hard people?
No kidding!! I do the same thing twice a year. Hit em hard for a week or so and get 1200-1500 in the freezer. 6 months
later they're all gone and go do it again.

How do you hit prawns hard other then soaking the pots in your favourit hole and picking them up 1 or 2 days later? I'm new to prawning so i'm wondering how you fish prawns hard! I thought pulling traps to quick is bad? My prawning is droppin them on the way out and go fishing for a day or two an pick em up on way home.

Awesome Prawning *****! freezer looks beauty! even better name......Prawn connerey. u should sell that name to a commercial prawn boat or something!

cheers,

wooly

Ill pull traps every 3 hours. 3 guys 12 traps pulling by hand you can basically drop your traps and when they are all down its time to check for crabs then start pulling your 1st prawn trap. Could have a limit after 1 pull if not drop er back down and repeat.

3 hours is a long enough soak IMO if your on the prawns. I do the same as these guys get a 6 month supply in a few days then quit until they are gone.

3 hours soaks, fish during the first soak, then pop heads and butterfly on the second soak.

BTW When heads start turning black the prawns are going bad.

keep them alive as long as possible, changing water every 5 mins till clean

NICE BUCKET! It runneth over
Thanks for the tips, im relatively new to this. What measures would one take to change water? I have a couple of ideas but obviously open to hearing from an experienced prawner. As for respecting the limits, I wont get into the finite details of possesion/number of licenses etc etc. I Would pull traps in the morning, reset, go home and de head/vein immediately (within 30-45 minutes of being out of the water), go to work for the day and then repeat at night. All this before closure for commercial. Went hard for a few days in anticipation of stripping the interior of my fishing boat during pleasure boating season.

i keep all mine in a bucket with about 30- 1/8 holes drilled in the bottom.. fill the bottom bucket with water and immerse... repeat every 5-10 mins... canso,, you need a bigger bucket!! nice haul!!
