Prawn bait when it has sat in the fridge for 2wk??

When I am done prawning I normally put the left over bait in a bucket and in the freezer and just add to it next time. I use pellets and scraps of salmon or bottom fish from the previous summer.
I have had great sucess with this combo but due to the Strong winds we have been having my bait has sat in the frige and is very stinky.. Do you think I should use it or pitch it?

I use pellets (or "kibble" as I call it) exclusively and keep it in the freezer all the time. It can get a bit ripe after awhile, but I have a dedicated freezer for it. DO NOT use it if there is the slightest bit of mold on it. The prawns do not like it!!

Contrary to popular opinion, when it comes to bait for Crabs and Prawns, fresh is better.

Are you using the bait for a day and wanting to re-freeze it, or are you taking it out on the boat and not using it in the traps?

Once it goes into the traps and into the water, throw it out when done for the day.

I have always kept my bait and re- used it by just adding a bit more to it. I have excellent success prawning(600+ prawns in a 1.5 hr soak-8 traps), so I will NEVER throw it out at the end of the day.

I am just not sure about it being the the fridge for 2 weeks..It is not moldy so I will try it tomorrow weather permitting.

If they'll eat a pig that's been dead for a week then they'll eat something that's been sitting in the fridge.

I use to shrimp off the wharfs at night and we would go out of our way to make sure the bait is nice and stinky. Crabs do indeed like fresh bait but the prawns seem to like rotten bait..... so I'm pretty sure prawns will like your stinky bait. While fishing for shrimp off the wharf the seals would take our bait everytime if it was fresh so thats one other reason why we use stinky bait.

And remember....Keep your tip up!!!

Well I used both the old sh*t and fresh..no difference.
