Hey guys...just wanted to know if anyone has made the run from Port Ren to Bamfeild up the outside.

Was curious as to how long the trip took cruising at around 25knots.

Thanks

weather and swell dependant dependant 2 to 4 hours hopefully no where near 4 hours.... check for swell direction and height as from there you are usually going against it. and a good boat equipped properly!!

It is 32 miles from Owen to Beale - Along the shoreline up to Carmannah is protected a bit, so you really only need to beat into the swells for about 20 -21 miles

I've done it a number of times, its a fun cruise if the weather is good - and its really hard to not stop and fish along the way! Just pick your weather and don't do anything silly, its no joke coming around cape beale in a big swell and chop.

If the weather's good enough to run it shouldn't take you more then a 2-3 hours.

if its 32 miles….put some plugs down and make the whole day of it! average 3.2 miles an hour and you'll be there in 10 and the plugs will be working perfectly!

I've done the run about a dozen or more times as well in the past several years -- actually all the way from Victoria to Bamfield. I find the section from Renfrew to Carmanah to be the most sloppy as you are typically headed straight into the swell. Once past Carmanah, you catch the swell more on the port bow -- plus you're more or less past Swiftsure so the larger well tends to dissipate. As others have noted, watch the winds and weather. Renfrew weather and Bamfield weather can be very different. Last year, rounding Beale we saw some large 6-8ft standing waves that got our 31ft 9000lb boat airborne. I find that if there is a strong wind or larger swell predicted, that you're better heading a few miles offshore -- getting past Beale and then riding the swell into the channel. If you get too close to Beale during a large swell, the seas are coming at you in two directions as they echo off the point making for a white knuckled drive in.

I've done the early morning trip from Sooke to Bamfield in 3.5 hours a few times and Renni is half way.

leave very early in morning before the westerly comes up.
change your fuel filters and have extra standing by.
if you have any crap in your tanks , it will get stirred up if the chop comes up and then if your too close to shoreline , you got problems.
Be prepared.
