Port Alberni Derby a Coho Derby This Year?

Just heard today the Alberni Derby is going to be a Coho derby anyone heard the same thing the source I heard it from is credible I think?

The announcement was made in late April that it would be a Coho only derby. Seems to me that it will mean a lot of people catching and releasing the few Chinook that are returning.

Wonder how it will effect the derby participation I guess the grand prize is still there but kind of wrecks the fun of chasing the winning Tyee I guess time will tell. I love your comment Big Green Machine to funny LOL!

They had a "Coho only" derby a few years back.....people did show up for it to fish, but the turnout was not quite the same as when it is Chinook.

I seem to end up in that derby every year. This year will be avoiding the area on purpose. Hopefully this years run of Chinook will make a come back.

The problem to me is that you will still have massive fishing pressure in the inlet, catching and releasing springs. Still not the best answer for an abysmal return as expected. What do you do though, the town needs the economic impact.
