“Although the owner started renovations in 1990, they were not completed.” 9000 square feet. I hope the new owners won’t have 9000 square feet gut and update. my house was gutted and rebuilt in 2006/2007 down to the studs and things are holding up pretty well but I’m deferring a couple of bathroom Reno’s and managed to convince my wife, just like in my first house, not to paint the kitchen cabinets white to “make them look more modern”.

My pick would be Comox Valley “some bias there of course”
From Pacific playground/Salmon point you can access Kitty Coleman hump and south end of Quadra 15/20 min either way both are very productive fisheries. These two marinas are also the starting point for day trips or overnighters to the main land inlet. Bute, Toba and Ramsey arm, Fishing Bute inlet late spring early summer is spectacular and the early morning bite can be epic. From Comox marina or union bay launch you can get to C&B a somewhat newer fishing location just north of Hornby island also very productive, as well fishing around Hornby can be good too.
Unfortunately finding a house with a dock is pretty much nonexistent in the valley and as mentioned our health care system is strained at best right now.

Awesome family retreat, but also well equipped to operate as a fishing lodge with 3 or 4 boats. $749,000

You did say best fishing, so for my top pick for a fishing retreat it would be hands down Haida Gwaii. Lots of off shore, inshore and river opportunities Just very limited services and not a lot of docks in back yards….thats more of a winter harbour, Bamfield, Ucluelet thing, which are all also great spots.

Boat in only?
Can’t beat those tax rates and like I often say, with today’s construction costs you are getting a lot of buildings/docks with the waterfront land thrown in for free.

Absolutely, it is a lot of property for the money, extremely well dialled in for fishing. 15-20 minutes run from Coal Harbour or 20-30 minutes from Port Alice.

I was looking into Brown's Bay for awhile.
Currently in CR, with a trailer, I can hit all the fishing I want without leaving asphalt.
Brown's Bay would be a nice place to have the boat in the water, lots of places to hit within 30 minutes.
Fuel dock and restaurant round out the facilities.
Couple of nice places there, prices have tracked up as noted above.

Bamfield waterfront/dock for me if it was just strictly fishing. Can't beat the place honestly.

Well-- I am retired. I live north of Courtenay in the rural area. Taxes are reasonable. I trailer my boat . Choices are Union Bay ( not suitable for a boat over 25 IMO ) Comox Marina-- good ramp but lousy parking, Moorage in the Marina in Comox is packed---Expensive. Point Holmes and Kitty Coleman ramps leave a LOT to be desired. Shelter Point resort has steep ramp with good parking...... Right now the homeless in Courtenay are not a pretty sight-- so lock down your boat and trailer and anything else you want to keep owning. But , even with the negatives , the Courtenay / Comox areas are still prime areas to access great fishing and a great great community.

I can’t agree with you more Bryan, my wife and I made a conscious decision to stay in Courtenay ( I could have lived anywhere as I’m in forestry and logging) we bought acreage for the horses and haven’t regretted it for the last 35 years. The fishing was better for us on the east side than Nootka this year as we had to go earlier. We fish Hardy as it’s an easy pull up there. I’m 10 minutes to Comox Lake and 15 minutes to the Comox Marina after the sewer upgrades are complete along the dyke in a couple weeks, we live in paradise.

Well you can fish for chinook salmon year round around vancouver. Can't keep them in April and May and the first half of June. But if you have an AA flag, and science kit you can partake in DNA sampling. If you're more into open to keep fishing then I'd say campbell river area probably

After all the talk about Campbell River I drilled down and did an extensive search…I’m a skier so Mt Washington being so close to town was also a draw. So I found the perfect place and called the agent
Then I ran into the brick wall of CMA/CA and the ban on foreign ownership…silly me…..I understand the reasoning behind that law but still….
So…
I’m going to start looking for a Canadian wife. Must be willing to get up at o-dark thirty and stay on the water until it’s too dark to see your herring spin.
Everything else will work itself out….

Reasonable access to healthcare, hard to get a family doc but the hospital is pretty good in sechelt and ambulance services seem to be good for now anyways.
Great fishing locally year round, reasonably affordable waterfront properties with private moorage do come available.
coastal air flights from Powell to yvr for those winter escapes.

That property in Quatsino that Enniberg is selling is great value imo. But is somewhat remote. Not a long boat ride to Coal Harbour and then a short drive on pavement to Hardy. Way better steelheading up that way then anywhere else on the island. Mt.Cain is great skiing as well. Port Alice and Port Mcneill are very good options if you want abit of civilization. ( especially Mcneill) Nice 9 hole golf course on road out to Port Alice as well . I don't like Port Hardy , as it's definitely got a drug/booze problem going on...

My best pal, a recovering lawyer aka a Judge, and diehard skier died the same year Mt. Cain was raising money for new bathrooms.
Now Mt. Cain is the kind of family/locals ski club my pal and I grew up skiing at back in Ontario
I donated money in his name for the new bathroom because the two things my pal really enjoyed were a good dump and a big dump.
My best pal, a recovering lawyer aka a Judge, and diehard skier died the same year Mt. Cain was raising money for new bathrooms.
Now Mt. Cain is the kind of family/locals ski club my pal and I grew up skiing at back in Ontario
I donated money in his name for the new bathroom because the two things my pal really enjoyed were a good dump and a big dump.
