I bought a gallon of White and dipped the downrigger weights. I did multiple dips with some flash time between dips. These have all stood up quite well over the last 4 years or so. Some definite snags and tears in the coating but still coves them well. Keeps the lead off the gelcoat anyway.
You can also "brush" on the coating for those damaged spots.
I have also done 1Lb small spreader bar weights, again keeps that lead film from rubbing off in the tackle/staorage box.
