Does anyone know where on the mainland that pilchards are available as bait.
I have caught them on WCVI by chance a couple of times by chance and they worked weel for the intended purpose.

Or are you able to just jig them with herring jigs?

Cheers,

I was just talking to some buddies about pilchards as well, I haven't seen them for sale as bait but I know they fish them commercialy and sometimes deliver to plants in vancouver and on the island. Maybe a guy could go buy a couple 5 gal buckets full and freeze em up and if they will only sell larger quantities, get a bunch of guys together and buy a tote full.

Blue Water Bait processes frozen Pilchards. You'll have to check who sells them. They're very poor quality tho. Speaking of which, I have started a bait company specifically for Sardines (Pilchards). It's called King of Baits Ltd. I'll be processing this summer in Ucluelet as soon as the run shows up on the WC. I want to provide a high quality product so I'm open to all suggestions on starving, brining, processing, freezing, packaging, distribution,...

They can be found in " The Real Canadian Super Store" in Campbell River. they also sell squid and octopus, and can be found in the frozen fish section....................BB
