Pedder Winters

Great info Porcupine. These are mature fish for that early in the season.
What run do you figure these fish are part of? What river are they heading for?

Can't figure why Sidney isn't shut as well probably bigger fish there this time of year than the straight.Go figure.

I figure that those fish are Early Fraser fish. Fish in the 20's have already been caught near Sidney.Bruce Regensburg and Rich Thierbach landed a 22 1/2 pound chinook off Fairfax Point on Thursday, February 29th, on an old Betsy Flasher with Chrome anchovy head. Sean Craig caught 18+ lb spring outside Galiano Island at 170ft with a white and pink hootchy I couldn't figure out why Sidney wasn't closed, then thought that maybe the person(s) making the decision is in the derby!

That's what I eluded too in a post last month b. These early Fraser fish seem to favour the Gulf over the Strait from historical catch records and IMHO.

Hit some smaller fish of Whirl Today and got one Hatch job off the Bedfords around 15# Lots of fish around.

Well, had the day off today and wouldn't you know it, it turned out to be an awesome day out on the water. Hit Whirl Bay between 10 AM and 2 PM and encountered lots of fish. And big ones too. Kept two around 12-14#, let one go that was a wee bit bigger but wild, one that was probably pushing 20# triggered self-release beside the boat before I could figure out if clipped or not, couple smaller ones went back too, even had one on a jig but only for a nice run after which he decided to part from me... Few more strikes...almost non-stop action. Saw a whale too, either a humpback or a grey - just saw the back and the tail breaching a couple time. No wind, manageable currents...all in all awesome! Life is good today!

Yeah, I think it was one of the best days winter spring fishing I have ever had. You couldn't keep them off the hook... You know, I took two sandwiches for lunch - never even had the time to touch them ... But I'd rather starve than missing rare action like this!

Cheers Chris,

Well done! And here I'm replacing my roofing so I can fish next weekend. Look forward to fishing the derby next to you in Aug! I will have my eye on you! [8D]

I am Canadian. Let's go fishing, eh!

Purple haze squirt and glow hootchie work both well. 120' deep about 10'-20' off the bottom. Turn your black box hotter than you would normally - I fished with about 0.715 V...

Braved the big Westerly blow today with Fishrite and special guest David. Anchored up for hali in right tight in the cover and got blown out. Dropped the salmon gear and had multiple double headers. Released a real nice one in the 20s and kept a fish a piece. Tough weather to fish, but a great day overal.

Justin where were you fishing salmon i fished out in the crap off of Albert Head and did good but if you were in pedder it probably would've been a little more protected.

Hey Bananas,

How are you doing? Sounds like you have been doing really well both on salmon and hali! I might have to book a trip with you, wolf and tailspin, now that I am boatless. Hope all is well with you and I will talk to you soon.
