Offshore Fishing 2010

Hey C.S. we were fishing right next to you at one point on Saturday. Shawn pointed out your boat and said "I love that name":D.

I love my Honda's. Mines actually a 2003 225 as well. No problems yet (knock on wood). The 9.9 is a little stubborn starting cold but once she's warmed up it's a good little motor. The weird thing about the big Honda is that it sounds like no other.

Hey Sculpin,what year and Hp is your honda?I'm looking at a boat with a 2003 225 with 80 hours on it.I understand there is some corrosion problems with the older ones,how do you like yours?

There are lots of Halis just outside Portland Pt. Any humps or structure that looks like tongues on your plotter should have some
 
Hey Sculpin, I have the same deal out there at Salmon beach, I have a trailer but not boat.....my situation is even worse!...Have to meet up sometime and share some fishing stories.....If your ever on 6th street down at the bottom near the point, mines the one with the huge Sitka Stump!!!.....i'll hopefully be out there for the long weekend!! anyways wicked pictures and great fishing!

The hump and suttons pass are tough on the rig so i ushually just fish bamfield as its easier running the inlet. Maybe its time to switch it up this summer. Keep the reports coming. Always appreciated.
 
Oh ill be out in the big B no doubt osama.I told some friends to book with you and they are bringin me with them now.Early aug. Better not pawn us off on bobber j!

Thanks Kelly. The hump and Suttons are not that big of deal really. If you have satellite radio or good CD's your set (bit of a drive but worth it really). The weekends kind of suck due to traffic from mainland rich folks in their BMW SUV's trying to pass you at mach 3[:0]. They have done a ton of work on the road in the last couple of years and she's not that bad now.

Will be fishing Bamfield next week,can any body tell me where i could pick up some bottom fish without going too far offshore.I have only fished over in bamfield once before two years ago.Any help would be appreciated.[8D]

Fished the South Bank yesterday afternoon and evening. Fishing was slow to start and smaller fish with lots of shakers. We fished the SE corner and as we progressed into the evening 5-6:30 pm the action picked up considerably.

I took my draftsman out that has never fished the WCVI before and he had a great time regardless of the slow start. "That's fishing" he said. He get's it ;) . He didn't feel sea sick at all and is more than welcome on our boat in the future.

Anyways he hooked a nice 25 lb. chicken to start and proceeded to land a couple of springs in the low teens. He was so into the whole scene. I think he's hooked. We caught 2 more chickens in the 15-20 lb range and limited on chinook in the 10-15 lb range. My hunting buddy , my first mate/son, my draftsman and myself.

Saw lots of bait this time out in the evening and this is the second time this year where things seemed real slow but stuck it out till early evening and it payed off.

We were fishing right off bottom looking for both halibut and springs. Started off using anchovie and picked up one or two. Switched to hootchies one turdish looking and one needle fish picked up a few with those. The action dropped off a bit and my hunting buddy switched to a small 3" pink spoon behind a coho flasher (I was thinking hummm :( ). Well he had non stop action on that set up for the rest of the evening :D. I threw on a small 4" wonderbread spoon and had similar results:). We caught the remaining fish with the spoons.


Great end to the day with a tub full and a great first time outing for a new WCVI fishman (my draftsman).

New batch of fish the last few days on the 20 fathom line. Seen a 40 on Sat and several other tyees including 3 this afternoon (1 in my boat):D
 
Thanks for the heads up Fishtofino. Heading up Wednesday night for the long weekend. In between weed wacking my lot and collecting firewood we hope to get out for some bigger fish. Jake wants to catch a tyee this year:).

Big westerlies has diminished most anglers offshore efforts but they are to end on Wednesday. I look forward to seeing the "Filthy *****" pounding on those Springs
 
7 mile on the 2nd was very good for us full limit of Springs for 3 people 1 hali 18lb when we went to the basement, in early on the 3rd only 3 springs for 5 hours, could have been better but not for us that day. Anchovie worked best, but every fish we caught had Pilchards in them, any where from 35 to 130ft worked, 65ft being about the best. Was about 30-40 boats fishing in the area.

Nice report quicksilver11. Good to hear some pilchards in the guts. Good to hear them suspending themselves shallower now on the banks. We had a similar Friday as your Saturday with a couple of my employees out with me and not so stellar results as some of our previous trips this year but hey that's fishing;). Thanks for the report.

Went out Saturday with my hunting buddy, his girlfriend, and his father. Great trip as we got into some nice fish and nobody got sick[^]. Fished the South bank in front of Ukee from 1:00 p.m till 6:00 pm. Fished on bottom for halibut and springs. Lot's of coho around and we managed a couple of hatchery fish in the low teens. Released quite a few wild ones and quite a few smaller springs. We limited on springs in the high teens to 20 lbs. and caught 1 halibut. Lot's of action all afternoon.

Here's the halibut I caught using a 3.5" wonderbread spoon behind a glow green flasher.

To mix it up a bit I threw out a T-rex hootchie behind a Purple haze flasher and caught this one as the closer for the day.

Lot's of the springs had pilchards in them. The larger fish were not clipped and were marbled. The coho where caught on the way down or up and right in the prop wash. Nice to get into the surface action these scrappy fish put out:)

Fish again this weekend with my son, buddy, and his dad. Fished South Bank all weekend. Puker boats out in full force.

Saturday weather was foggy, soupy seas, and blowing out of the south. Fishing for us was slow to start but picked up nicely in the afternoon. Lot's of springs around 20 lbs. a couple of chicken's and 1 hatchery coho around 12 lbs. Released quite a few wild coho.

Sunday we fished earlier and got on to the bank around 7:00 a.m.. The water conditions were nicer than Saturday. For about 1.5 hours it was lights out. Over 20 hookups same sized fish. Great morning on the water. Nice to come in early and get home at a decent hour. Got some fish in the brine for smoking tomorrow night:).
