1st Tubbed out

Lines in at 6:30 yesterday, bite started at 7:45 just south of north arm. Took three friends and were Tubbed out for the first time fishing sock eye by 11:30. Have not seen that many boats off the Fraser before, cograts to everyone for their driving skills, didn't see any close calls.

Hi FB, have u checked all bilge pumps for corroded wires etc. Sounds like u might be " hot" . I've seen this scenario many times in years of commerciallfishing these frustrating fish.

Hey FB are u running braid on your downriggers.. Had this exact problem on my hewes once at Nootka sound changed to braid and it really worked

Loaded up on gas and crossed the strait from chemainus. Arriving at sand heads looking to the east at 715am all we could see were the silhouettes of jumping sockeye- everywhere!! Pretty amazing. Lots of tangles and an easy 2 person limit. 90-115 on the rigger in 450ft water. Ran back with the southeast wind. Toughest part was the north end of tricomali. Great day

North arm was good again this am, had 19 by 9:45 but one of the guests was too green (not all that rough but they had never been on a boat before) to finish so we forfeited our limit to go in.
Most fish came on the deeper lines @ 90'

I took Sunday off after going Saturday and doing pretty good, and went today with my father in law. We launched out of Steveston at around 6:30 am and the ramp was pretty good today, in and out. We only got 2 fish today and didn't loose any. We saw a few small schools but it was slow for us. I spoke to one fellow who had 11 between the three of them and was trying for his last one. I think we didn't do too well today because I was lazy with trying other hootchies and not veering away from the glo-heads that have worked so well for me all season. I think I need to re-adjust for length behind the clip too as I think I might have been to short today. Oh well, next weekend!

That's not what sockeye schools look like on my Lowrance. I would say that's not a sockeye school. Generally sockeye show up with more variation in the picture. I don't know how else to describe it. Usually not in the 150 to 250 foot range either.

. I spoke to one fellow who had 11 between the three of them and was trying for his last one.

Sounds like us, as we were asked around 130pm and had been running chinook gear on all rods for last fish 12pm till 1pm with no luck. Switched one side back to sock gear and runnin back to launch with limits for three by 2pm. Should have been limited by 1030am but converion ratio wasnt the best (good times). 88' to 124' on rigger with most fish coming towards the 120'mark on rigger.

Gonna try to head out tomorrow morn as long as the weather holds off. Wind supposed to pick up tomorrow. Will check early morn to see where things are at. Mornings still been good at north arm lately?

Got 4 sox and 2 springs yesterday at Sandheads. Good times...

Decided to stray from the norm and went to fish the hump off Bowen today. Didn't quite make it there due to a low oil alarm (doh!) But once the gear was down my hunch was rewarded. Picked up a nice 15 lb spring off the bat followed by two sockeye. Since I was on low oil I trolled towards the river but once off the structure of the hump the bites stopped.

Far from stellar but rewarding running a new spot and new gear and hooking up right away...

Any yup, running braid on the riggers....figure I just gotta tale my hardknocks before I get my sockeye stripes....nice water today tho!

Weather update. 6:45am. North arm is 1.5 m chop. I just turned around and headed back in. Have a 21ft boat. Bigger boats may brave elements but it's not nice out there and I had kids on board.

Glad you got rewarded for making the long haul over. Nice to see our side of the pond reciprocate since often we have to venture to your waters to catch fish!

Did the same. We may have passed in the river. Saw 3-4 boats out and bobbing hard. Winds supposed to pick up. Not worth it.
