Nootka Winter Springs

Has anybody had any experience fishing winter springs in nootka sound?

A friend of mine headed over there in March one year.
It was cold as a witch's tit and snowed on them while they were trolling-snow was so thick it piled up on the rods.
A few fish but he said he'd never do it again.
