Nootka Sound Halibut

Can anyone give me a few pointers on how and where to catch halibut outside of Nootka Sound? I'll be heading out there in early July and again in early August. Thanks.

If you haven't been there before I would suggest you hire a guide. Pay attention to him and ask a lot of questions. Most guides will share info with their clients. I don't know how much time you have on the big blue but it is no place to be if you do not know where to go and have all the safety equipment.

Its not hard to find them...just go off shore about 5 miles and look for the outer bank before the shelf drops off and start fishing.

Thanks for the advice.

I have had some good catches for halis trollng between 100 - 150 feet right on the bottom just a few miles north of Friendly Cove Light House. 12 lb balls on the down riggers. The bottom is very down rigger friendly there, just check your charts, and you should be okay. Good luck,..........BB

End of July & August is not the best Halibut fishing, but just go out to Bajo Reef, find a rocky or sandy bottom, drop to the bottom and start trolling!

The same worked good for our group @ Bajo- biggest was a 60lb Halibut.
Hit the bottem bring it up 10ft and both the halibut and Spring will bite[8D]
