Does anyone know of any other places maybe even a private cabin? I've Emailed all the places you guys have suggested and so far have only heard back from Rodgers. I'm thinking that that is a little further than we were planing to travel and they do the cooking. How far would it be from Gold River by boat to Rodgers? Also how far a run is it from Moutcha Bay Resort to fish off shore, and yes I realize the further off shore you go the further it is but a ball park figure. Thanks
Just a few questions How many days are you staying? From Moutcha Bay Resort it is approx 16 miles to the lighthouse and then another 8 to 12 miles off shore, depending on where you are going. The only gas I know of is either Critters or Moutcha Bay but if your stuck I,m sure there are other places that would help out. There are only three places that you can drive to, Moutcha, Cougar Ck. & Tuta (In the Nootka Sound area) In the middle of July the fish should be coming into the inside of Nootka, at least they have for the last 4 years but this is a new year. Gas was cheaper by a few cents at Moutcha than Critters in the last few years.
Moutcha does not allow people to stay on their boats while at docked to their docks, don,t know about the rest of the sites in the area.
If your just fishing for salmon, in the middle of July there is no need to go off shore, and halibut can be found at the lighthouse. But I think your a like me, we always head off shor=e, right, the bigger ones are always farther out.
Quote: (further off shore you go the further it is but a ball park figure)..........I have a 20' Hewescraft Searunner with a Yami 150 & Yami 8 high thrust, it takes us about 35 to 40 minutes to cover the 16 miles to the lighthouse, running around 3600rpm and from the whistle bouy back to Moutcha (with good sea's ) it takes around an hour............I have made it in 45 min but not at 3600rpm..........that day was great and there were a couple days it took us damn near 2 plus more hours, God was that lighthouse a blessing in disguise when we reached it and followed the inside waters to Moutcha Bay. Everyone is probably thinking, did you go back the next day, when the weather was the same, of course we did, we fish.
